Richmond's Pioneering Roots

The pioneering spirit has its roots in the early 1800s, when more than 200 wagons arrived daily as they traveled west along the original National Road, which made its entry here in 1827. Since then, Richmond has served as a traveler’s destination with the addition of U.S. 40 and then Interstate 70. Richmond is perfectly located: The major cities of Indianapolis in Indiana and Dayton and Cincinnati in Ohio are just an hour away.

The old pioneering spirit is on display in museums, in murals, in mansions, in the historic productions of Gennett Records. Richmond was an early leader in automotive manufacturing and continues that role today with dozens of businesses fabricating parts for the industry.
